Language and Literacy Labs explores a Tier 2 approach to helping students who are not mastering the core grade level objectives in the areas of language arts and literacy. Join us as we explore the who, what, when, where, why and how of implementing instructional modifications through Tier 2 language and literacy labs. This multi-sensory, center-based approach to Tier 2 RtI is designed and staff by speech pathologists, special education teachers, reading specialists, or other designated support personnel who are skilled at extending classroom curriculum using alternate techniques and strategies. With a strong emphasis on peer interaction, language and literacy skills are strengthened in the lab setting through customized activities such as goal-specific board games, readers’ theaters, computer programs or writing activities utilizing a small group setting. As part of this workshop, you will have the opportunity to make materials that can be taken and used immediately in your own lab. As a workshop participant, you will also receive your own kit of materials appropriate for use in the Language and Literacy Lab setting.
