Back to Basics: Normal Development in Young Children

Remember the days of kindergarten where playing was king and the alphabet song ruled? How things change! Today’s kindergarten is much more demanding but have developmental norms really changed? Back to Basics will explore typical childhood development in the areas of language, literacy, social relationships, academics and motor skills for children aged 3 to 5 as well as learning styles for young children.

This delve into the world of normal development is a must have for educators and administrators as IDEA 2004’s requirement for Indicator 7 begins to take hold. Monitoring positive social-emotional skills, acquisition and use of knowledge and skills and use of appropriate behaviors as required by Indicator 7 will be clear and simple through the exploration of the normal development process. Going back to the basics opens the door for success.
