Collaborating for Functional Literacy

The power of collaboration between classroom teachers and speech pathologist in the field of literacy is unveiled in this two day session. On the first day of this exciting and fun-filled workshop the stages of language based literacy development are explored and intervention is brought to life through instructional techniques and strategies designed for use in inclusive classroom environments. In addition to a wealth of ideas and techniques provided for promoting literacy, the second day of this seminar offers participants the opportunity to explore language/literacy labs as an effective approach
to Tier II RtI. This is an exciting opportunity for classroom teachers, resource teachers, speech pathologists and administrators to discover new ways to jointly work to help students succeed in literacy.

Course Objectives:

  • Strategies, instructional techniques, and activities to facilitate language development through literature
  • Knowledge of works of children’s literature which foster language development
  • Using literature to facilitate mastery of TEKS and IEP objectives
  • Literature as RtI
