The Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) is a national nonprofit organization committed to providing safe, inclusive, and enriching environments for youth during out-of-school hours. Serving nearly 4 million young people annually across more than 4,700 clubs nationwide, BGCA offers critical support through academic enrichment, mentorship, and skill-building opportunities when school is out.

Afterschool and OST programs at BGCA are designed to close opportunity gaps for youth in underserved communities. These programs prioritize academic success, healthy lifestyles, character development, and college and career readiness. By tailoring services to local needs and maintaining strong community partnerships, BGCA ensures that young people have access to high-quality programming that supports their growth and long-term success.

BGCA Clubs Afterschool Impact

BGCA’s afterschool and OST programs have consistently demonstrated positive results in the areas of academic performance, youth engagement, social development, and readiness for future opportunities. These programs help build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging in the young people they serve.

📚 Academic Outcomes

Participants in BGCA programs benefit from dedicated homework help, tutoring, and literacy support, leading to improved academic achievement and better school-day performance. Many clubs also incorporate STEM and project-based learning into daily enrichment activities.

🏫 Attendance & Engagement

BGCA programs contribute to improved school attendance and reduce behavioral incidents. Youth involved in club activities often report a stronger attachment to school and increased motivation to learn.

🧠 Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

BGCA integrates SEL into all aspects of its programming, emphasizing emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and healthy peer relationships. Staff are trained in trauma-informed practices to better support the holistic needs of youth.

🎓 College & Career Readiness

Through career exploration, workforce readiness programs, leadership training, and mentorship, BGCA helps prepare youth for post-secondary education and employment. Many clubs offer dedicated pathways such as diploma support, job shadowing, and financial literacy.
